Leading machinery supplier Kuhn joins SilAC
“We are very pleased to welcome Kuhn to our members group,” says David Craig, SilAC’s Managing Director. “With their addition Kuhn fills a missing link SilAC previously had into the farm machinery industry, bringing a wealth of expertise in the vital equipment that helps farmers manage day to day operations efficiently.”
“At a time when profit margins are under so much pressure we strive to help farmers make the most out of their forage and grassland systems. Adding the machinery perspective will ensure we can provide farmers with even more comprehensive advice for improving their ability to produce quality and nutritional silage at a reasonable profit.”
Kuhn, which also makes equipment for bedding and feeding, soil preparation, seeding, fertilization, landscape maintenance, manure spreading and spraying, joins other leading organisations operating in the silage market, including The Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) at Aberystwyth University, stretch film manufacturer BPI, agricultural company Dow AgroSciences, resin producer Dow Europe, seed company Germinal Holdings/British Seed Houses, and agricultural retailer Mole Valley Farmers.
“The overriding aims of the SilAC project are to help livestock farmers maximise the value of their forage through effective harvesting, storage and feeding,” says Sian Pritchard, managing director of Kuhn Farm Machinery (UK) Ltd. “We share these aims through our manufacture and supply of innovative and efficient forage equipment. Kuhn is a longstanding leader in mowers, rakes and tedders and has machines ideally suited to feeding big bales in our diet feeder and feeder/bedder ranges. We have recently added round balers and wrappers to our forage range so now offer the full package and as such are the ideal partner for the SilAC initiative.”
The Silage Advisory Centre provides farmers with down to earth, pragmatic advice and tools to maximise fodder and grassland management systems using baled silage effectively. It also acts as vital source of information for farmers weighing up the pros and cons of different silage systems, processes and materials.
